3rd NORTH SHORE SUGAR BOWL A HIT, LEO BAJO STEPS AWAY GRACEFULLY AFTER 35+ YEARS OF VOLUNTEER YOUTH FOOTBALL COACHING IN WAIALUA!

11.8.2008 Waialua, Hawaii— The Waialua Bullpups Football & Cheer Association is pleased to announce that the 3rd NORTH SHORE SUGAR BOWL was a hit as 5 youth football games were played on Saturday November 8, 2008 at Waialua High School Football Field. The featured game was in the Jr Midget division with the Waialua BULLPUPS taking on the Kaneohe Knights at 4:00 pm. Although our Bullpups came up on the short side in the game against the Knights, Melanie Hatchie (Waialua Bullpups President) was quick to point out to all who participated on this day that we are all winners no matter what the outcome of the game. Just the fact that our communities offer an opportunity to participate in a positive structured youth developmental football program and you are a participant makes you a winner already.

Leo Bajo (pictured right), Jr Midget Head Coach coached his last youth football game in Waialua after 35 plus years of volunteer service. He is an icon in Waialua having guided 1000's of kids in Waialua toward a more positive direction through youth sports. "It is important to listen to your coaches!" Leo said after the game to the kids an important life skill no doubt that goes beyond the football field. I believe his saying was meant not just toward coaches but he was trying to say listen to your elders; parents, grand parents and teachers to! To give some perspective on how long Leo has been coaching in Waialua kids who are currently 8 years old to middle age men in their 40's who played Pop Warner football in Waialua Leo has probably coached. I have always wondered how he has been able to have such longevity in coaching the demanding sport of youth football but can only assume that one needs to have "thick skin" to accomplish such a great feat. Having been a coach myself I have always enjoyed helping the kids out but parents can be overwhelming at times. From all of us at Waialua Pop Warner we thank you from the bottom of our hearts Mr. Bajo and wish you and your family all the best! Mahalo for all your time, passion, dedication and wisdom over the years!

New this year in the North Shore Sugar Bowl was free entertainment provided by Na Kaninue & Key of G shortly after the last game for fans to listen to while sitting and relaxing after a long day of watching football.

The North Shore Sugar Bowl was created in 2006 for several reasons; 1. Have a truly special fun filled day for our Waialua BULLPUPS Football Players and Cheer girls, 2. Raise money for our association and 3. Show case our youth football & cheer program as well as others around the league to our North Shore Community.

The weather for the 3rd NORTH SHORE SUGAR BOWL was, "Great football weather", as they say... sunny but on the cool side due to over cast skies.
