JPW's Phenomenal 2008 Run
Comes to End!

Aloha Stadium, November 16, 2008-- #3 Rico
Sallas ran for two touchdowns but it was not enough as the Makaha Aliis
put an end to the Bullpups phenomenal run 40 to 12 at Aloha Stadium today.
The Bullpups earned their chance in this semi-final playoff game today
against the Aliis after defeating Hawaii Kai last Sunday (11.9.2008) in
one of four quarter-final playoff games also played in Aloha Stadium 13-0. Makaha will continue on to the championship game set for next weekend at
Aloha Stadium against the Highland Colts for the division II 2008 JPW
crown.
The Bullpups struck first with a touch down
run by #3 Rico Sallas in the 1st quarter but failed to convert on the
extra point try to take an early 6-0 lead. A few minutes later Makaha bounced
back with a 1st quarter touch down of their own and added the extra point
run in to take a 7-6 lead. About half way through the 2nd quarter #3 Rico
Sallas ran for his second touch down but again the Bullpups failed to
convert on the PAT hoping back into the lead 12-7. Soon after, Makaha
scored their 2nd touchdown and added the extra point run in to regain the
lead 14-12. With 8 seconds to go till half time the Aliis had the ball on
about the Bullpups 40 and completed a short pass that went on for a
touchdown to increase their lead 20 to 12 over the Bullpups as time
expired.
In the second half the Aliis dominated scoring 20
unanswered points to win the game 40 to 12.
I
congratulated
coach Paki after the game and he said the
kids played their hearts out today and he was really proud of them no
matter the outcome of the game. We are all proud of the team and hope that
this positive momentum the JPW have started will carry on into the 2009
season. Players and parents keep your kids playing in the program and if
they have to move levels please sign them up as this is an important piece
of the puzzle to continue to keep our program strong each and every year.
What a great moment for our Waialua Pop
Warner program as these kids really opened our eyes to the fact that if
you work hard and all share a common goal as a group with undivided
support by all involved you can achieve greatness. "Nobody will hand you
anything you got to earn it", as coach Paki would say I second the motion.
Hats off to coach Paki and the rest of the JPW staff
for an outstanding season!
I sign off for now and to all you Bullpups I
leave you with this saying, "Complacency is your worst enemy, stay hungry
always!"
